Have you ever felt that you are just not utilizing your Windows computer to the fullest? Odds are, you are not. It is estimated that we only use about 10 percent of what our technology is capable of.
So, to help you get the most out of your Windows computer, here are 5 tips and tricks that will help you better utilize your computer!
Aero Shake
Have you ever looked at your screen and saw numerous programs open looking like a tornado hit? Instead of minimizing each window individually, Windows has a feature called “Aero Shake” that allows you to minimize all open windows except one.
To use this feature, click and hold your mouse on top of an open window and give your mouse a shake back-and-forth. All open windows except the one you are clicked on will minimize, remove the clutter from your screen!
Search Window
Ever get lost searching through folders trying to find one file you need? Windows has a search window that is able to quickly find a program or file for you in much less time than it would take you to dig for it.
To use this feature, click the Start button and you will see a search window at the bottom of the pop-up window. Simply begin to type the name of whatever it is you are looking for and matches will begin to appear.
Shortcuts
To make things faster, Windows has incorporated many shortcuts. Some you may be familiar with, such as CTRL+C for copy and CTRL+V for paste. Some are less familiar though, like CTRL+Z for undo and CTRL+Y for redo.
Another cool shortcut that will improve your multitasking abilities allows you to snap a window to the left or right so you can see two open windows evenly. To do this, open a window and click the Windows key + left or right arrow.
Caps Lock
Have you written an email to someone and realized to late that you accidently hit the Caps Lock key and most of the email is in all caps? This has happened to almost everyone and is of course a violation of email etiquette because all caps letters makes it appear you are mad.
You do not have to delete everything and start over though. Instead, highlight the problem text, hold down Shift and tap F3. This will change all those letters from upper to lower or vice versa. Also, with a third tap you can make the text Title case, Meaning It Looks Like This.
Mass Rename
Do you take a lot of pictures and are tired of seeing the arbitrary image names like IMG_0123.jpg or DSC0123.jpg? There is a way to rename a group of pictures to help you organize your folders. For instance, you can select all your Christmas pictures and rename them.
To do this, highlight the photos that you wish to rename, right mouse-click and select Rename. Type in the name you wish the photos to be, such as Christmas 2011. All the photos will be renamed with a number at the end, such as Christmas 2011 (1). You can do this with documents and other media as well
